Central bank digital currencies for cross-border payments

Joint report by the BIS Innovations Hub, the IMF and the World Bank

The joint report by the BIS Innovations Hub, the IMF and the World Bank analyses how CBDCs could facilitate improved cross-border payments and how these considerations could be put into practice. The analysis highlights both the need for multilateral cooperation on macro-financial consequences and the importance of interoperability among CBDCs. The report concludes that when interoperability is in place, digital central bank currencies (CBDCs) have the potential to increase the efficiency of cross-border payments.
